Hello, my name is Jeff and I am the guy that started The Geek Registry. I am just a regular guy and not particularly special with the exception of my skills as a computer
tech. This website started out as a project for myself, some friends, and colleagues I have worked with over the years. Most of us have done time as warranty techs for many of the major computer brands, which does not pay as well as it should. Almost daily we went to customers and repaired their computers (more laptops than desktops nowadays) and these customers would ask if they could contact us to take care of their expired warranty home computers. Our intention was to direct these customers to this website so they could find us easily on a website that has an easy to remember name.Within the first week The Geek Registry was officially up and running people started stumbling on to this site. To everyone's surprise some of these people registered or asked if they could register and be part of this. It was one of these first new registered geeks that suggested advertising to see if there were more of us with the same sentiments. Our sentiment is that most big store chains, businesses, and various other commercial entities have devalued what computer repair work is worth. Imagine, you finally meet a computer repair person that can fix anything and you would like to keep in touch with them in case you need them in the future. But this computer repair expert only made $10 an hour fixing your computer while the company that sent them collected upwards of $100 or more from you. So it does not surprise you when your new found computer expert quit and you unfortunately loose your connection with the only computer expert you think you will ever meet. If only you had known, you think maybe if you could have paid this person the full service fee they would more likely always be there to help you in the future. Now you have an idea of what The Geek Registry stands for.
The Geek Registry exists to change this and as we grow so does your selection of computer geeks/experts. I have enough work but if you are a computer Geek looking to make a little extra money or start your own computer service you are welcome to register here free and see what happens (nothing ventured, nothing gained). Since The Geek Registry is Free for all there is no risk. If you already have a successful computer service business and just want to support what The Geek Registry stands for we welcome you and the knowledge and experience you have. Even if your a computer geek and only want to support The Geek Registry you are welcome join and participate in the forums.
Kindest Regards,
Jeff Jarrett
